Malahat Nation is paving the future of self governance by moving away from the jurisdiction of the Indian Act and scheduling under the Fiscal Management Act. The FMA provides Malahat Nation authority outside of the Indian Act over our finance Administrative Laws, Local Revenues and Financial Reporting for infrastructure and economic development. The FMA provides Malahat Nation with access to the services of the FMA institutions which are the First Nations Financial Management Board (FMB), the First Nations Finance Authority (FNFA) and the First Nations Tax Commission (FNTC).
Malahat Nation has addressed barriers to economic growth by improving our financial infrastructure and ability to attract business investment. The governance and financial standards and legislation implemented have established confidence in our financial statements, fiscal stability and administrative practices. We are in the final stages Financial Management Certification from FMB.
