The Malahat Nation Chief and Council are committed to supporting an engaged community by ensuring there is a range of opportunities for Malahat Nation members to be knowledgeable about local government and provide feedback on issues affecting their community.

Gordon Harry

Hello all, my name is Gordon Harry and I would like to raise my hands to the community for the opportunity to be part of Malahat Nation’s Leadership. I am a Malahat Nation member, and have lived within our community for the past five years - I am thankful to be home with my family. During my previous term within leadership, I have learned a lot and am proud to step into the role as Chief and to have the support of our three counsellors during this time.

Ey’ skwachil ne shqwaleqwa ne’ schalecha’. Good day my relatives and friends. My name is Randy Daniels. My real name is xwatimet. I was born here in Malexel and have lived here all my life. (74 years). I am Happily married to Jennifer Daniels, and it will be 38 years on August 31, 2023. I did not complete high school, but I believe that’s why I was able to hold on to my culture and language. The language that I speak is Samish. It comes from Anacortes Washington and the San Juan Islands from my maternal grandmother Cecil Tom. I also understand some Hulquminum and senchosen dialect. On June 12, 2023, I was elected Malahat Council member for the Malahat Nation. (Ma’lexel). I have always done my best for the Ma’lexel people and will continue to do so. Hello to all our members elders and youth, I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to the nation for supporting me in continuing my time within leadership. I am passionate about canoe paddling, bringing back culture to our community, and building strong relationships with everyone. My family is my biggest support system, and I would like to raise my hands to them too. I am looking forward to connecting with you all and welcome you to bring forward any conversation topics to me and the rest of our leadership. Join us on our next community meeting on August 22nd.

Uy’ Nethulh, anthu Qwil’qwu’lenuhw. My registered name is Shane. I am a descendent of Steele Harry, he was the father to my late great grandmother Lena Daniels (nee Harry). Lena Daniels was my grandfather’s mother, and my grandfather is Randy Daniels Sr. I grew up here and spent majority of my childhood exploring our traditional grounds. My mother is Maureen Daniels, and my father is Robert Sylvester Jr. I have 3 siblings, 1 brother and 2 sisters. I am currently enrolled in a Horticulture Foundations Program. It is a goal of mine to become a Landscape Architect eventually. The program ends at the end of this year. Once this program is finished, I will be back in full-time duties as your Malahat Council. I am very new to being in the seat I am now in as Council. I have been learning quite a bit within this past month.
